Leeds’ longest-running funk, soul & jazz dance session lives right here.

For 19 years — from the very night we opened our doors — Rootdown has been the heartbeat of Saturday nights at Smokestack. No gaps. No gimmicks. Just a straight-up soul, funk, jazz, blues and Latin, every single week.

From 10PM onwards, DJ Chico Malo takes it back to the source and beyond — digging into heavyweight classics, rare cuts, dancefloor burners and slow-simmer grooves that keep the floor moving ‘til late.

And it’s always free entry — because Saturdays should be about good music and good people, no barriers.

Nineteen years strong and still spinning.
